6H trip to Debdale Park
Start: 22nd Sep 2021 9:00am
Duration: 3 hours
Each year 6 class have been booked in for a session at the Water Sports Centre in Debdale Park. This is a fantastic opportunity for the children to experience some water-based activities such as canoeing, kayaking, sailing and raft building, as well as developing new skills that some may want to continue with in the future.
A permission slip has been set up on school spider for these visits and will need to be obtained for your child to participate on this trip.
Times and Dates
We will be leaving school at 9am and returning at 12:45pm. The children will be walking from school to the centre and back. The sessions will last from 9:30-12:00. Before we leave, the teachers will check that the children have the appropriate clothing/equipment, so please ensure that your child arrives in plenty of time to allow for this and to avoid missing out. The children will be back to school in time for their dinner.
The trips will take place for each class across three separate dates, starting next week:
6V:
Monday 20th September 2021
6H:
Wednesday 22nd September 2021
Clothing and Equipment
For the walk to and from the centre, children will need:
- Suitable footwear (school shoes or trainers)
- Sun cream (this needs to be applied before school. If your child needs to reapply after their session, then they will need to bring their own sun cream with them labelled with their name)
- Cap
- Coat
The walk will take approximately 25 minutes, so please ensure that your child is suitably equipped for the weather.
For the water sports activities, your child will need:
- A large water bottle – the school cannot provide this and due to COVID restrictions there will be nowhere available to get a drink on the site. The staff will label the bottles on arrival in the morning.
- Swimming costume/swimming trunks
- Towel to shower afterwards
- An old t-shirt that will get wet
- An old pair of trainers that will get wet (these cannot be the same shoes that the child is using to walk back to school in)
- Please also ensure that your child is not wearing any jewellery, including earrings, as we will not be able to recover them if they are lost in the water.
- A plastic carrier bag for wet clothes to go in
The water sports centre will provide the children with a wetsuit and life vest upon arrival.
Please note that if your child does not have the appropriate clothing, then they will not be able to participate in the activities, as we cannot lend/provide them.
The Water Sports Centre is situated in Debdale Park, which is open to the public. We will remind the children of behaviour expectations prior to their visit, alongside the safety precautions when in or near the water. Please feel free to discuss this further with your child, or if you have any questions, please contact school to speak to a member of staff who will get back to you on admin@varna.manchester.sch.uk.
We are thrilled to be able to offer this opportunity to the children, and to start their final year at Varna with such a positive experience!
Yours Sincerely,
Miss Doherty
